PHOTO SHOOT CONFIRMED: Cable Installation for Wallenda Grand Canyon Walk

On June 23, 2013 in a remote corner of the Grand Canyon, 1500 feet above the Little Colorado River, Nick Wallenda will attempt his highest high-wire walk to date.  During his untethered journey, Nik will be contending with hard to predict winds as well as constant strong updrafts and downdrafts.

Everything about this construction project is unique.  The first challenge was to design the custom cable and establish anchoring points on each ledge of the canyon.  Installation of the high tensioned cable over the 1200-foot gap will be the final feat before Nik takes to the wire rope at 6 p.m. Mountain Time.  The 2-inch diameter custom wire rope weighs-in at over seven pounds per linear foot, more than six tons in all.

I have been contracted by Power Engineers, the cable designer, and O’Connell Electric, the installer, to capture brand imagery for their respective companies and to photographically document the construction process from beginning to end.
